Beverly Central Elementary School, Rockton, ON
2016- 2021 Jan Description of Project Brand new Beverly Central Elementary School& Community Centre for the Hamilton Wentworth District School Board and the City of Hamilton. Approximate Project budget of $24 million. Project involved from conceptual presentations to all electrical and low voltage designs and site reviews, payment certifications. I was the electrical engineer on record for the electrical work. I managed the design team, submitted plans for authority permits and ESA reviews, arranged meetings with utilities, with my staff, did all engineering calculations, provided fees for additional work, negotiated design fees, provided mentorship to junior engineers and staff, when site related specific problems such as building electrical duct banks on 100% filled ground came up, provided necessary guidelines after consulting all related stakeholders and best engineering practices to mitigate any future failures.
Royal Canadian Steel Plant – Brampton, ON
Feb 2018 – 2020 Nov Description of Project Approximately $11 million addition to the steel plant. Project involved a new 44KV substation, lighting, power to production equipment, a new office with state-of-the-art IT equipment, automated processes, lighting and all other related services. It also included numerous upgrades to the existing facility. I provided the electrical fee estimate and worked as the electrical engineer on record. I coordinated the submission of plans for authority approvals and ESA reviews. I managed the design team and was the engineer of record for electrical work. I was responsible for reviewing the construction from the beginning up to the completion. I mentored junior staff with necessary engineering and administrative guidelines. When a major feeder cable damaged during installation, I provided guidelines and precautions to be considered when re-installing the same feeder.
Joe Mavrinac Aquatic & Community Centre – Kirkland Lake, ON
2017 – 2019 Nov Description of Project Approximately $14 million aquatic addition to the existing Joe Mavrinac Community Centre comprising an ice rink. New addition required electrical service upgrade, Myrtha pool for the expanding community. Electrical scope of work included design of service upgrade, overhead and underwater lighting to satisfy ASHRAE 90.1 and OBC, fire alarm, CATV, security, IT, emergency call assistance systems. Construction review and all aspects of consultancy services. The service upgrade required a complete design of a 44kV substation. I was the electrical engineer on record. Having provided the fee estimate, I managed the project for EXP ensuring the quality of service and profitability aspects as well. I provided mentorship to junior staff. I submitted drawings for authority permits and ESA reviews. I did project billing and other administrative tasks for EXP. When an issue came up due to very shallow rocks creating difficulties in grounding, I suggested necessary engineering solutions with alternative installation methods to solve the problem and achieve compliance requirements.
Hamilton General Hospital-New Hybrid Operation Theatre Building Addition, Hamilton, Ontario
2018-2020 August Description of Project EXP undertook the Electrical, Mechanical and Structural Scopes of the above project. I was the electrical engineer on record from conceptual stage to the project completion. After providing fee estimate to the client, I managed the entire electrical and low voltage scope of the project until completion. I was the electrical engineer on record. I was the project manager for EXP ensuring the quality of service and profitability aspects as well. I coordinated meetings with various stakeholders to complete the design documents. I coordinated submitting documents for necessary permits and ESA plan review processes. I participated contractor prequalification processes. I reviewed bids and provided inputs. I managed staff to provide construction reviews and I attended construction meetings. At the end of the project I provided occupancy letters.
Toronto Police Service 52 Division, Toronto, ON
2015 – 2018 Aug Description of project I was the electrical engineer on record for the Toronto Police Service 52 Division Renovations. Project budget was $8 million. Complete renovations of Electrical, Low Voltage Emergency Power Systems, I.T, Security, Paging. Project Included a Group B cell area with impeded egress to satisfy NFPA 101. I managed junior design staff to produce design documents to meet project deliverable timelines. I coordinated and managed them to submit plans for necessary authority permits and ESA reviews. I did the project construction reviews myself and used junior staff for the same as well until I provided the occupancy letters to the building department. When an issue came up related to retrofit panels not meeting the required SCCR. I provided engineering solutions to resolve them.
Hudson’s Bay Company, Toronto, ON
2015- 2017 August Description of Project Project involved conversion of a traditional warehouse to a robotic warehouse. HBC warehouse Bldg#6 added OPEX robotic warehouse management and Bastian warehouse fully automated conveyor systems. Project involved complete power distribution re-configuration, renovations, addition of service platforms, Lighting, Fire Alarm and other low voltage systems. I was the engineer on record for both design and construction reviews. I managed and mentored the staff to produce deliverables to meet project timelines. I coordinated to submit documents for Authority permits and ESA reviews. I used our staff to do project billing to the client. I produced additional fee requests when we performed duties not in the scope. I negotiated fees. I participated bidder pre-qualification processes. When an issue erupted due to surges in non-linear electrical loads, I provided engineering solutions to resolve them. Approximate cost of the project was $11 millions.
Central Utilities Plant 8MW Substation Upgrade-City of Hamiltonompany, Toronto, ON
2011 – 2013 Jan Description of Project Central Utilities Plant in Hamilton downtown provides power to the downtown area including Hamilton City Hall, The Copps Colliseum and multiple other buildings. Central Utilities Plant provides power to the district cooling and heating systems of the downtown buildings. Due to the plant was running at capacity, entire plant had to be upgraded from 5MW to 8MW. It included complete replacement of the existing plant due to its aged equipment and addition of capacity to provide future cooling requirements. I provided multiple options with cost benefit analysis, lifecycle costs and sensitivity analysis. I participated project presentations to the City of Hamilton. I designed the project and managed my junior staff to produce drawings to meet project deliverable deadlines. The project had numerous challenges to maintain power to the entire core area of downtown during construction and I provided strategic engineering solutions. I attended factory visits when testing substation equipment. I reviewed construction progress draws and provided comments.
Eatonville Long Term Care Emergency Genset and Service Upgrade
2014 Apr Description of Project Added emergency generators to the Eatonville Long Term Care. I was the Engineer on record. I submitted plans for authority permits and ESA plan reviews. I assisted owner on bidder qualifications. and construction reviews and progress draw reviews. I managed junior staff to deliver project deliverables on time.
Appleby Ice Centre-2 Pad ice rink addition-Burlington, Ontario
2008- 2010 Nov Description of Project This project was comprised of an addition of new twin-pad to the existing twin-pad arena, constituting a 4-pad complex when completed. The two NHL size ice pads will each have 200 seats. One pad is to accommodate figure skating as the primary user, with upgraded finishes and ample glazing for natural light. The $9.0 million 67,000 sf project is LEED Certified and completed in 2010. EXP was the mechanical electrical consultants. Electrical work comprised of related selective demolitions to attach the two new pads, electrical service upgrade for the entire 4 pad facility, exterior electrical, lighting, security and other system upgrades, interior lighting, emergency power, life safety systems, power for refrigeration systems, mechanical systems, paging, sound and music systems, audio visual systems for the entire facility. I was the designer and worked with another engineer up to the tender. Since he retired, I undertook the responsibilities of the construction review processes, participated construction meetings, issued instructions. I coordinated submission of plans for ESA reviews. I reviewed progress draws and provided comments.
Hamilton waterfront outdoor arena
2007-2010 Mar Description of Project Hamilton Waterfront outdoor arena with an ice plant, built in 2008-2010. I was the designer who designed all related electrical and low voltage services that included lighting, paging, refrigeration plant power systems. I did the construction reviews and submitted occupancy letters to the building department. When an installation issue came up due to contractor selecting unsolicited products and when they were accepted by the owner, I participated in stringent product review processes. I reviewed progress draws and provided comments. I attended bi-weekly construction meetings.
Turner Park Library and YMCA –Hamilton, Ontario
2006- 2009 Jun Description of Project 7,178 m2 multi-use complex including a 2,430 m2 library and a 4,645 m2 YMCA. The library includes areas for collections, seating, children’s programs, meeting facilities and associated administrative services. The YMCA accommodates an aquatics centre, mini-gym, health enhancement area, change rooms, multi-use areas and a child care centre to accommodate 10 toddlers and 24 preschoolers. Shared facilities include lobby, public washrooms, café, parking, pick-up/drop-off and shipping/receiving. I designed lighting, electrical distribution and power, I.T and all other low voltage designs and construction reviews. I coordinated submitting plans for authority permits and ESA reviews. I provided number of construction related solutions. I participated obtaining consensus from building department by providing rationales for certain design aspects. Waterdown Memorial Skate Path, Waterdown, ON
2015 – 2017 Apr Description of Project Skate path with amenity building, baseball diamond and skateboard park. Approximate project budget was about $ 6millions. I was the engineer on record for electrical work. I estimated electrical fees to win the project. I worked with our junior engineers and other staff to produce deliverables to meet the project timelines. I submitted plans for authority approval and ESA reviews. I was the project manager for the electrical scope of work for EXP. I conducted site reviews, participated construction meetings. I used junior staff to manage project documents such as site instructions. I reviewed contractor progress draws and provided comments. When contractor wanted a solution to accommodate some of the owner’s additional requests, I provided engineering solutions. Finally, I provided the occupancy letter to the building department. This project won an award from the city of Hamilton.
Union Station Revitalization Project-Trainshed and Vertical Access, Toronto Ontario
2013 – 2018 Dec Description of Project As a part of union station revitalization requirements, trainshed renewal, expansion of concourse areas, renewal of York & Bay Concourses were carried out. EXP inherited a partially completed design from a previous engineering firm where I as the engineer on record had to complete the design from concepts to the completion of construction phases. It was a major project for Metrolinx where all trainshed roofs were renewed, an atrium was built. Even though some areas of the project were descoped due to budget constraints project was completed providing final occupancy in 2018. I managed the EXP electrical engineering team all the way from start to finish. It included administrative tasks such as project budget forecasting, submission of additional fees, attending meetings etc.
Union Station Platform-3 Toronto, Ontario
2013 – 2015 Description of Project A new platform was added to the existing Union Station prior to 2015 Pan-American games. I was the Electrical Engineer on record. From the conceptual design stage all the way up to project completion I was involved with all aspects of the project related to electrical. Participated initial concept meetings, preparation of design drawings including electrical, fare collection and other low voltage systems. I was the engineer responsible for construction reviews, progress draw reviews. I management engineering staff at EXP to deliver the documents to meet project deadlines. Since union station is a multi-tenant facility with multiple electrical services, I coordinated and provided number of engineering solutions to ensure a common grounding system for all tenants. I worked with ESA closely to provide certain specific solutions such as atrium power installations. I coordinated with the heritage consultants on certain variances required to comply with Parks Canada(heritage) requirements.
New Pickering Operation Centre, City of Pickering, Ontario
2012– 2019 Description of Project A new approximate $ 26 million project for the city of Pickering Public Works. The first phase of the project was prepping the infrastructure services for the building. It was completed by another electrical engineer who also designed the phase 2 of operations centre facility buildings. Due to his retirement, I undertook the project from the bidding stage and undertook the construction review scope. Numerous changes were proposed to the project due to client requirements changed. I worked with junior staff to provide necessary changes. My work involved attending bi-weekly meetings either by myself or sending junior staff depending on circumstances. Re-verifying the hazardous area classification was part of the project.
